A woman indicted with harassing Kate McCann apparently left her a voicemail message which questioned: "imagine I am Madeleine?"

The defendant, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has repeatedly asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial charged with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February this year.

On Monday, Leicester Crown Court was told phone records and data obtained from phones documented Ms Wandelt repeatedly requesting Madeleine's mother for a biological test over that period.

Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - at the age of three during a trip in Portugal - is one of the most publicized missing child cases and remains open.

'I Am Not Seeking Money'

A separate recorded message, played in court, recorded Ms Wandelt declaring: "I understand I'm fat and plain like Madeleine was, but I know what I know."

While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's recording expressed: "Imagine there is a slight possibility that I'm her? Then what? Wouldn't that be significant for you?"

"I do not need money, I maintain a life here in Poland, I just want to know," the message continued.

The panel was advised that through electronic messages, text messages and communications, Ms Wandelt requested a genetic test, transmitted youth pictures to her phone in a effort to display a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and claimed to have "recollections" from a early life with the McCanns.

Robert Jones, an investigator with Leicestershire Police who gathered the information, told the court there "showed no any answers" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt furthermore communicated with acquaintances of the McCanns, based on the phone records.

On that date, the father picked up a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "the wrong phone."

That day Ms Wandelt left a recording on Mrs McCann's answerphone saying "I will continue and I intend to demonstrate my claim."

The court heard Mrs Spragg struck up a relationship via internet with Ms Wandelt preceding joining her on a appearance to the McCanns' home in the county in that winter.

Phone records revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out using WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to state the news outlets had depicted Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she deserved to be treated respectfully in the time preceding the visit to Rothley, that area, in December 2024.

The court heard communications between the two defendants, in November 2024, considering trying to acquire Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from silverware at a restaurant.

"We need to take action," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.

On the night of the appearance to their home, the defendant transmitted a message which said: "We are positioned near the McCanns' house with our lights out similar to detectives. I desired to do this with someone else I never thought I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
