🔗 Share this article Adult Swim's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Secures a Significant Extension for an Additional Two Seasons. In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often characterized by cynicism, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit. A Major Commitment In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters. "I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come." A President's Endorsement In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky sensibility. "All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'" A Wholesome Alternative Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about following this endearing family navigate their simple existence. Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running layer of irony. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts. “It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.” Future Seasons With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well help usher in that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to bask in the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan. The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
