Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for questions to be asked about his future following a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the team's worst run after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at Anfield.

“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received plenty of backing from above,” Slot commented.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”

He noted, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach said:

“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they trust me.”

He added, “During our regular discussions I feel the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this game so far so let’s see.”

Familiar Failings and Squad Response

Slot expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder remarked.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period such as this with outcomes so bad.”

Jones finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we'll continue to compete.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad back to the top, prove once more what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”

“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
