Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the early candidates under consideration to succeed the former manager as head coach of Wolves.

The previous coach was sacked on the weekend after the team's ten-game without a victory beginning to the top-flight campaign.

And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous links to the club - are among the options to be evaluated by the club leadership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a potential hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.

However the former Luton head coach - who made over a century of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is considered a strong contender for the vacancy.

The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the club directors as they start the search of appointing a new manager.

Gary O'Neil is additionally emerging as a surprise candidate, although he would be a surprising choice considering he was sacked by Wolves in the previous winter.

The former West Ham player is currently unemployed meaning Wolves would not need to provide any compensation.
