🔗 Share this article The Battle Royale's Specialized Movement Mechanics Become Widely Accessible During This Update Respawn Entertainment has an exciting surprise in store for the popular battle royale gamers, arriving just in time for the holidays. Fans of the battle royale's highly fluid traversal can rejoice to discover that an innovative traversal feature is being implemented when the Amped season goes live on November 4th. Unveiling The Mantle Boost Named "Mantle Boosting" by Respawn, this ability gives players a burst of forward momentum when scaling obstacles. According to key developer Eric Canavese, this technique was previously been a feature of the game for quite a while, often called as "ledge boosting." However it's no easy feat for casual gamers, and is mainly used by pro gamers in competitive play or tournaments. In this update, the team is making it easier for everyone to successfully perform these tricky speed-boosts. "Mantle Boosts have been in Apex for some time, but executing it requires skill to pull off and a player would never know it's possible without external guides," the designer states. "We're adding a visual cue so users can clearly identify when and how to activate the fast-paced traversal skill, making accessible the feature and adding fresh strategies to compete for a much wider base." The Reasoning Behind Opening Up Advanced Mechanics What's the reason for making a once niche technique available to everyone? Principal designer Josh Mohan explains the team wants gamers to experience empowerment — even those who are inexperienced. "[The playerbase] is doing advanced techniques like super-gliding and tap-strafing, and we looked around at our competition, observed what our players are doing, and we said, 'How can we provide some of this power to more players?'" Mohan explains. "Since right now, some of these advanced [movement] mechanics are kind of janky to access — you need to change controls and hit one-frame windows. So we said, 'What if we make a more official version?'" Season 27 Movement Focus Movement is largely the name of the game in Season 27, with characters the gravity mage, the defensive specialist, and the aerial combatant receiving buffs to help keep them in motion. Recovery time on Horizon's Gravity Lift has been decreased, and the Gravity Lift will propel users into the air faster than before. Her defensive walls now include overhead protection and the ability to provide movement bonuses to allies in range. But the spotlight is on the high-flying this Legend receiving significant improvements this season, with various adjustments implemented to enhance her as more potent, quicker, and more lethal. "I think many agree that her moment has arrived," says Legend designer Ian Holstead. "Certainly she was dominant previously, but with the introduction of other characters, movement[-based] passives, and redeployment tools, it felt like she fell behind in today's the game. It was a really great opportunity for us to revisit a bunch of aspects [of her kit] and sort of restore her to former prominence." Enhancements to the Aerial Legend To reclaim Valkyrie's relevance in current strategies, Holstead says Respawn assessed all her skills and introduced significant changes. Her VTOL Jets received improvements, increasing her speed while airborne, and the jets themselves now recharge much quicker, allowing the player to remain longer aloft. Now she won't be harmed from her ultimate ability, which was enhanced to mark opponents who are hit from it. Her squad redeploy ability — which lifts teammates skyward for repositioning or escape — requires much less time to fire up. Additionally, she gains recently added perk choices that players can select to reduce fuel consumption, expand the spread of her rockets, or further speed up her ultimate activation. "Her jet pack now delivers on the pilot experience," Holstead comments. Olympus Improvements Even the game's only floating arena, this location, receives a movement-friendly facelift, with major changes that expands choke points and renders securing elevated positions a bit less daunting. Respawn says the game Season 27 focuses on giving players the resources they need to keep up with the competition. "Essentially, we examined Apex's core identity as a movement shooter," explains lead Legend designer the lead. The battle royale the Amped season launches November 4th at 10 a.m. PST/1 p.m. EST.
