The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
